Made It Myself Monday: Dog's Got Stuff

Okay... We are back in school. They just left.
I am alone with the pets and the housework and the internets for 7 straight hours.
I feel like the world is my playpen.

So on that note: Let's talk toys. This is a little fellow I started on our summer excursion and finished after we got home.

Meet Augie the Doggie, Boston Terrier.

Augie has a leather collar and personalized dog tag, a leash, bowl, bone, tufted bed, and a sweater. Not bad for a guy with is only 4 inches tall.

I really love making toys. And more than making toys, I love a play set. I want everything to have all it's accessories. I don't even have a really plan for Augie. I just made him because I really wanted to. Sometimes I just spoil myself that way.

WIP Wednesday: The Longest WIP

I have a WIP that is much older than
Michelle's quilt.
It transcends generations.

I found it about a quarter of the way finished, in my Grandma's closet, after she died.
The receipt that was still in the bag said 1986. Usually needlepoint isn't my gig.. but I thought she might appreciate it if I gave it a go.

I've been working on it, occasionally, for at least 7 years, maybe 8.
Just a few more stitches and then I can block it.
And make it into... whatever it was meant to be.

What is your oldest UFO? and are you now thinking about finishing it?

Made It Myself Monday: Peace O' Candy

These are for Handmade Holidays '09: The Consumables Edition.
(I'm still on track for done by Thanksgiving!!)

The peace sign is 50 years old this year. Did you know?
It is one of my all time favorite symbols.
I had it painted on my punkrock leather jacket when I was just a churlish young grrrrl.

I wanted a cool graphic to restyle these thrifted tins for our baked goods, and fudge. The sentiment goes great with our combined winter holiday sensibilities and the shape lends itself quite nicely as well.

A little paint and a contact paper stencil and Voila. Stylish, politically savvy and eventually to be full of yummy goodness.

So what's so funny bout Peace, Love and tins of candy?

( Yes! a crafty post! FINALLY!!)

Blogger Play Date

( My apologies to anyone who has experienced any bad multipost weirdness. I am really out of practice, I guess.)

While I was off at my mom's with my night walkin' neighbor (we walk every night after she gets her sweet passel o' kiddies to bed..), I got this exciting email.

"We Are On Our Way!"

One of the sweetest bloggers I know was coming to my extended neck of the woods. And she was bringing another favorite blogger, and meeting up with another-nother favorite blogger. So I grabbed my most local favorite blogger and we had a Play Date.

Okay: Sonya's House. My son is ready to bail out on me and move in there.
"Mom, I really want to collect stuff. She has the coolest stuff. This is the coolest house."

"You know that tea we had at Sonya's?
Can we get that kind? It was really good."
"Mom, I need to make some art."

Sonya. Seriously. You are sooooo cool.

And Jen came with her obsession and shared it with Jacob. She let him take a pic with her precious Polaroid. She totally told him all about it. He ate it up.

Guess what he's getting for his birthday? Yup. Found one at the thrift store on Tuesday. Jen starts my photographer off on another new form.
Jen, You are so inspirational!

And my favorite moment was upon the arrival of Jen and Kristin,

Adorable "peanut" decided to try and be Shy for awhile, which meant that before we even said hello my arms were full of excellent baby-deliciousness. And it made it all perfect. That weird cool thing where the people that you feel like are friends and kindred spirits from blogging...Well, they ARE.
And then there they are in the huggable flesh.
Kristin is so fantastic and so just like I knew she would be.
Kristin, thanks for showing up in my neck of the woods and bringing baby hugs!

And on the way home what should appear over the road ahead?

What a fantastic day! We should do it more often!

Blog? What Blog? (Or The First New Excuse)

Okay.. This is actually more like a practice post. A post to say I am going to post and keep on posting. You know... like the old days. I read your blog and you read mine.
I do miss you blogland. I keep meaning to come by. I really have so much to talk about. I just get distracted.

A couple weeks ago, when I first dissappeared, I ran away from home to the Northern California Coast (my mom and dad's house...Hi Guys!), and I took my neighbors.

Pretty, Huh?

That was 5 fun filled days.
Hanging out at the river:

Jacob was amazing with the littler kids. It washed out months of built up pre-teen sass.

Cooper was socialized.. People and dog style.

And we all go our summertime relax going.

And right on my way out of town I got a lovely package from Jennifer over at Infinity More Monkeys with an awesome road trip mix cd and all these:

Thanks Jennifer!! Perfect timing!

Stay tuned for what happened to the other 12 days..
They actually contained some photographable CRAFT.
Seriously.
Don't look at me like that.

I mean it.
