La-de-da.. Mod-de-dah..
Here we go folks. Simplicity 7679. Check out the eyeliner on these chicas! Yowza!
It coulda been a mini.. but the vintage tablecloth (thrifted up about a month ago and soaked ever so long in Oxy-clean to get it wearable) didn't want to be cut short. And my legs aren't as adorable as I remember them being so the cute material is doing us all a big favor!
The pattern has this a really boxy cut so we had to "mod"-ify it ( did you gag a little on that pun? sorry.) with big major- inch deep in the middle- back darts and take in what would be long straight seams on the sides too.. ( I had a sewing buddy.. I was standing on a chair in the Green Kitchen, if you know what I mean. ( BTW: a good sewing buddy beats the heck out of any other sewing notion you can get your mits on. If you are going to try this at home... Get one if you can!)
Okay, Back to the dress:
Yeeesss.. Our alteration does mess with the lines, and essentially changes the design, but "as is" this pattern would probably only look really good on a broad shouldered size 2... or a hanger.
Now I have a little something extra because I am truly shameless and will do pretty much anything to entertain anyone who will come look at this little ol' blog o' mine.
And if that isn't enough!
We have a few new players... Check out:
Practically Neccessary and
Dandelion Vintage, Sewin' it up!
Go On, Ladies.. you are way too groovy!

You rock so hard it hurts!!! Shameless hussy. I love the dress and I LOVE THE MOVIE. The super-saturated color is the BEST. I am going all-cap crazy I know. I felt that I was in the Cap d'Antibes, not the Water St. Bridge. Love your style, always.
The movie. I think I just broke something snorting tea out my nose. Darn you and your movie! You almost killed me from laughing.
I have to say that's the BEST thing I've woken up to for years that little video. What a fantastic idea - you're a natural poseur............
BTW love the dress too. Amber is so desperate for a 1950's dress like the ones Hayley Mills wore in The Parent Trap so I'm looking out for patterns.
I had to leave another comment cos I love that video clip so much.
Oh my! Oh my, oh my, oh my! Did I say, OH MY.
You rock. :D
I think I remember makiing that same shift dress in Grade 8 Home Economics....it's strangely familiar, although to be sure I didn't use the same fabric. I think mine was a funky mod yellow print! Great movie by the way. I'm impressed!
Hi. I found your blog through Whip Up. Just wanted to say that your blog is awesome. I love the new vintage! I often find I have to alter vintage patterns to make them more flattering, too.
Your dress is beautiful. Love the video too.
LOVE the dress! Fabulous fabric. And you're a hoot!

I think I love you!
HOLY CRAP!!! I got the chills! Really, I did! When you were on the bridge I thought, I hope she waves. And you did! It was perfect! And your D.P. did a great job!
Every time you out-do yourself! That video is hilarious and the dress is absolutely perfect. You were only missing the eyeliner. I can't wait to see what's next.

OK, now I get that when you said you used to want to be an actress you really SHOULD have been because you've got the gift lady!
I think the shift is great. As to alterations, that is the mark of couture!

I love the way you cut the front of the dress from the print. It's like you have a garden growing from the hem. Your video is the bomb. Too freaking cute!!!

Wow! How did you do that? That video was so awesome, it was like an episode of the Monkees, if all the Monkee cuteness was bundled up into one great superwoman. You should have a tv show, all about your crazy crafting hijinks! Love the dress, love the blog, love the everything :)
Love your dress and your video! I've been lurking for a while and thought it was finally time to say hello!
I have heaps of vintage patterns, and I'm hoping to be able to play along with the "new vintage wardrobe" folks soon!

Oh, come on!!! That was so SWEET!!!! Not at all Bitter!!! You rock sistah! I love, love, love the movie- you big flirt! I love the dress even more that it is from a damn tablecloth! Totally awesome! I am a tad jealous of you teaming up with Michelle- pout! pout! I wish Amanda and I could come play too- maybe SOMEDAY.....anyway.....loved it! Do it again, please. and soon! Great skills- loved the retro split screen.

Hi, I came in through Wardrobe Refashion. Your dress is a knockout, and you look great in it! You've made me all excited about sewing again. ^__^
Har, nice to see some local shots in that movie. Downtown looks downright uptown!
Hope we can meet some fine day.
A.
I came in through Sew Mama Sew and happened upon this awesome video. That is fantastic! I snorted Sprite and my kid laughed at me so the pain was worth it, I guess. Love the scene on the bridge and the part where you're walking and swinging that awesome bag! :0)
