I took a swan gourd that I dried a few years ago, that was too interesting to toss, but had moved from the realm of seasonal decor into the realm of clutter. I washed and sanded and painted it with Mod Podge Gloss. Then, I cut out doors and window with my little dremmel tool. (I used the rotary saw tool; the one that looks like a drill made of sandpaper) I used what I had, and it looks like Dr. Seuss was their architect.
I scraped out all the dried up gourd stuff with a metal spoon, smoothed a bit, with sandpaper, and then painted the inside their favorite color.
After it dried, I hung eyelet curtains made a rug, a bed, and a little spool table.
Easy as pie.

Do you have suggestions as to how to dry a gourd? Just thinking I can't be the only one who hasn't a clue. :) At least I hope not. The house is fabulous!
I just left these in a sunny window on a tray with some other gourds... A couple didn't dry well but these did.
You can also buy the gourds already dry.
It looks like a tutorial might be a good idea for this project. I will try and get one together.

My mom has been making those for years and selling them online, only she paints them. It was the first time I ever saw them (when she made them)....they are fun for kids...we love them!
