This Is What Optimism Feels Like

Yesterday... as I went into the voting booth, I felt a little like a super hero.

Today, I feel like I want to roll up my sleeves and dive right in to making the great feelings of last night, into the kind of energy that will create real and lasting change.
I am so impressed with the way people showed up. And if, as the saying goes, "Half of Success is simply showing up.." What can we do with this momentum?

Voting was a great first step.

So, step 2 for me is this:

All profits from my Etsy shop will be contributed to Heifer for the remainder of the Holiday season. Excitedly and gratefully so. I am moved to do something and this is so easily done.

I'm also going to write a letter to my son, or my potential future grandkids, or some random stranger about how this day felt, about what I hoped would come from the votes I cast. Because this is a very important day, and maybe later they will want a window into it.

Maybe you should do it too.

it truly is a wonderful feeling, this relief, this hope, this anticipation. it is amazing what we are capable of when the chips are down.

This was an election for the ages. I hope these good feelings of hope for the future can be turned into repairing & unifying the good ole U.S. of A into a country we can be proud of. This was an amazing step in the right direction.

You're so right that the voting was just the first step. My biggest and only fear about Obama getting elected was that Americans would assume that he'll do all the fixing and now we can sit back and do nothing.

I was thinking the bad economy was finally shaking people out of their apathy and I want them to keep shaking it off.

No president is solely responsible for running our country- we all have a responsibility in it too. If we make him walk alone we are assuring him of failure.

so I want to roll my sleeves up too because now is a great moment to dive into the great work of making all of ourselves better and more responsible.

I'm so happy today I could cry.

I'm very very proud of my country right now and it's been a really long time since I've felt that.

I couldn't agree more--this is a great time for our country. How cool of you to donate your profits. Way to walk the walk.

Woo-hoo on the Heifer donation idea. My family members are each donating $100 to Heifer as our present to each other.

Love the Heifer donation! Great idea...love the blog also. I was very proud as well to vote yesterday but Very sad about the outcome of the elections!! We deserve so much better than Obama! I do believe we need to roll up our sleeves and get to work at our local levels to make change!!

To all the like minded... I just can't contain myself, I am thrilled every second to my core..
And to Anonymous who was disappointed:
I've been disappointed so often. I never stopped voting. I never stopped believing. That is the very essence of democracy. Today I am eager. I hope that you will be pleasantly surprised.

Thank you Bitter Betty! I too have never stopped voting and never will. I do hope I am pleasantly surprised but I just don't see that happening with the man we elected! But I will keep my head up and do what I think is right and to do what I believe in!
