Handmade Holidays: The DUDE CRAFT edition.

Hey, Hey, Ho Ho...
If you are related to me: please read no further, as this post contains
Holiday Gift Spoilers of an epic variety!

Please come back at a later date and enjoy the post... But for today: avert your eyes!

I have always encouraged Jacob to make his own gifts. In the past we have made tons of really delicious fudge and cute sock dogs and other fine items... But this year I think we are really on to something cool.

Last year Jacob came up with a fun slogan, and using some clip art and computer technology he put together his first T-shirt design.

I taught him to silk screen and voila...

A Handmade Holiday gift perfect for all his
Art School alumni, sci-fi nerdy, aunts uncles and grandpas.

The Soylent Green Ad T-shirt.

It was great watching him debate placement, color combos and the way the positive or negative on the colors changed the design. In his design process he was very clear and specific, combining two graphics and selecting his fonts.
I guess you can tell I am proud.

Now, I just need to get him his own Etsy Shop!

Next Dude Craft: Felt bead necklaces for 3 very feminine preschool cousins, and then something for the grandma's...

Such a cool idea and excellent design. Wow, you're making it sound like a good thing to own a teenage boy...

For the Grandmas, can I suggest that you screen print that awesome design onto plain cotton and sew onto the front of bags like this one http://leanneshouse.typepad.com/photos/romancing_the_roadtrip/rtr_talbot_oct_06028.html
Grandmas love things made by their grandkids!! (Also the bag is super fast to make, I've made quite a few for Christmas now)

The moment I saw this, I thought, "Get him an etsy shop, and I would buy more than one of those." It's PEOPLE!

Fantastic! Definitely a red-hot seller, should he decide to go public. To instill in a child, and in a boy child, even (I say as the mama of such a person), the love of hand-making gifts -- it's an especially fine thing and SO pride-worthy! (Dean's rushing to finish his potholders.)

Thanks for the kind words about a Christmas for three; I am SO looking forward.....
Merry merry!

I SO want one! Set that boy up. I echo the sentiment that it would be great on a bag. oooo! Or an apron! Or dishtowels!

From a fellow sci-fi nerd: that is AWESOME! Tell him he has another admirer. And if he wants to sell the shirts or a PDF of the graphic (so we can make our own) I will be in line.

Okay, I have to admit I had to google Soylent Green. Now it makes sense. The t-shirts are way cool. Good job!

That's awesome! It's a regular phrase in the household..my husband finds it amusing to shout it out when we have guests who've never been exposed. :)

I like the wolves too.

Happy Solstice!

How freaking adorable is your son (and his shirt design?). Like mother like son, you crafty ones!

That's a fabulous design -- he's so clever! I was thinking about trying silkscreening... Do you have any recommendations on a kit to buy or anything for newbies?

OMG, I want one! That's one of my husband's favorite quotes, he likes to just say it randomly. I would get one for me, too. So clever, and I love the graphic! And yes, it would be perfect for kitchen items like aprons and potholders, what a riot. Nice job, Jacob!
Happy Holidays!

Please let us know if the "dude" opens an etsy. I'd easily part with $20 for this shirt, he'd be making a huge profit. Great way to teach him how to be a successful entrepreneur (and save for his college education)!

I've added you to my feed list!

I'm so sorry that I'm old enough to REMEMBER THAT EPISODE! I can actually remember sitting there thinking....I bet its PEOPLE. I ruin all the books I read doing that.
Anyhoo.......when he decides to SELL these, he'll make a bundle off of folks like me!
