Tutorial Tuesday with Sally Stitch- Cutting It Up

Golly.. I need to make some bound buttonholes too... But I didn't practice first.
Man, why do I ever ignore Sally? I always end up paying in the long run!

( I did get a couple extra tracing wheels at the thrift store.. I'll send one to one lucky commenter. It really is a great way to transfer darts.)

I have some lovely bright blue linen that makes me feel exactly like the redhead in the first panel.

That pinking shears trick is good idea as well!

Tracing wheels? Are those the ones that poke through colored paper and it transfers a trail onto the fabric? Haven't thought of those in a long time, but I can think of many ways to make good use of one of those.

in frame 1, the way Sally's friend is rubbing the fabric on her face--I've been there.

I hate taking markings from the pattern piece, i pin and snip as much as possible. hate it! maybe a tracing wheel would improve the problem. i bet Sally would agree.love the clothes you create for yourself. fabulous to read about, always makes me go and sew, and mark!!

I love these vintage manuals. They're so deliciously condescending and moralistic.

Dude, I need a tracing wheel. Mine is prehistoric and wobbles -- not good for straight lines.

Tracing wheel....that brings back memories of watching my mama sew in the 70's. She made me some beautiful dresses in that distinct 70's style!

p.s. Thanks to your post of Where I'm From, I did one, too, and sent it to my mother for Mother's Day. It made her cry! Thanks for the idea.

I am doing a where I'm from poem for my parents' 60th wedding anniversary this weekend--I expect that there will be few dry eyes in the room.

I remember tracing wheels well, but always liked to use little dots and connect them...

I would use the tracing wheel now for making dotted lines in my journal!

I've been pinking edges after I sew the seams. I've never cut the pieces out with pinking shears. I love that idea! Thanks for sharing!

Aha! So that's what you do with a tracing wheel! I've been sewing for half my life (since my freshman year of high school) and never knew. I guess that's what happens when you never take a class or know people who can give you nifty tips.

Now I really want one. Well, I wanted one before, but I didn't know what to do with it.
