So I did it!!
I made a deal with an Honest to Goodness sponsor, the super deluxe online retailer CSN
CSN has over 200 online stores that carry everything from martini shakers to tv stands and even, drum roll please, Sewing Stuff!  And they let Me pick out something to give away to you, my wonderful readers!

After a long and thoughtful perusal, I settled on something that every seamstress wants, but only a few will allow themselves to purchase. The Hundred Dollar Iron!
"What?" You may ask yourself, "Why in the world would one want a Hundred Dollar Iron??"
Well, because next to your Sewing Machine, your iron is the most important garment construction tool Ever! and let me tell you, from my retail merchandising days, the better irons really work BETTER.
But you don't have to take it from me. I have included from White's Sewing Manual circa 1947 a step by step pressing guide/ tutorial, so now, with this valuable info, everyone is already a winner:

(Click to enlarge and print sweeties. You Know The Drill.)

I know you are now convinced that there IS room for improvement in your pressing life. You need more details on that fancy iron, doncha?

Well, here's the specs:

The improved steam glide and comfort of the DX-8860 provides a new level in professional ironing. With a new better design and higher quality, the DX-8860 delivers higher performance. Its polished stainless Steel Soleplate with advanced heatshield with extra large area and specially designed dimples and channels, provides better glide and easier ironing with less effort. Get the same amount of work done in less time and greater comfort with the extra long steam burst, and full comfort handle with ergonomic controls. The 100 percent covered soft touch handle provides comfort and a non-slip grip for precision ironing, while soft touch ergonomic controls buttons provide superior control. Features:

  • Extra Long Burst of Steam
  • Anti-Drip System
  • 3-Way Auto Shut-Off
  • Self Clean System
  • Variable Steam Adjusts for Right Amount of Steam for Every Fabric Type

Okay, to enter leave a comment on this post. If you link back to this post in the next week  you will be entered a second time. Let me know in your comment that you will be doing that, so I can find you easily. (Lazy, Sell-Out Betty...)
I will combine the two lists and use the Random Number generator to pick the winner on June 1st at 9:00 am PST.

Tell your friends, especially the ones with those tatty old thrift store irons.

You're so right, it is a totally different experience using a really good iron. When I don't HAVE to do it(ie wear aomething right that minute) I kind of like to iron, something about the smell of hot cotton & starch I guess

A friend got upset because I was late and we wouldn't have time for a drink before the movies. I said sorry, but I'd had to iron my shirt and pants. She responded that should have taken about a minute. She always looked like it took her about 15 seconds. She could have used this article, and this iron. If I win, I'll name it after her.

I am not a seamstress, but my mother is. She taught me to iron when I was young so that I would always look polished when I left the house. I'm now married to a police officer - Detective actually - so he always needs to look professional when going to work. I even iron my little boys clothes and they are only 20 months and 3. I use a Rowenta iron because they do work better. My email address is techspoon@comcast.net should my number be drawn.

Thank you,

I'll try, my iron is a throwback to the 70s. CSN contacted me, but they would NOT give me anything for free to review or to giveaway, they only offered me $50 towards the purchase of something to review and then would give a $50 GC to one lucky commentor, I passed. I must know at least 8 bloggers that get stuff sent to them all the time for free. and Now you get a $100 iron to giveaway. I do not understand, how the same company can make such a different offer to some people then to others.

GOOD LUCK to everyone!

thanks for this opportunity.

I would appreciate a new iron. I seem to go through them quickly---they last about 1 year. When I replaced my last iron (2 weeks ago!) I decided to buy a cheap, because I determined that it's just not worth the investment. But to WIN an iron would be wonderful, to WIN a high quality iron would be abolutely a luxury. thank you for the opportunity!

Chantal said...

Before I started sewing, I could not care less about irons, cause I was allergic to ironing, and always bought clothes that needed no ironing...(I make a test in the store, I scrunch the piece of clothing I'm thinking of buying in my hand and if it stays wrinkled when I release it, then I usually don't buy it!). BUT since I started sewing, I realized that ironint is an important part of the process, and that I need a good iron. I still hate ironing clothes, but while I'm sewing, I actually like ironing seams! The iron I have is old, all rusty, but I'm not willing to spend money on a better one, so I must win this one!
