Sally Stitch: More seams and some Really Helpful Hints

This Helpful Hints page is getting framed up and hung in my sewing area. When I first started making stuff I had to sew some velvet to canvas for curtains for a family friend and after some serious tears and cursewords I called my Grandma Ruth and she told me to sew the whole thing between cut strips of brown paper bags. It worked. I love handy info like that!

What? Mrs. Home Maker is scrapbooking her seam practice?
Okay, now I feel like a total craft slacker.

  1. I once made a wedding dress with a total lace overlay on a $125 Sears Kenmore machine. This little machine was wonderful for playclothes, but murder on lace. Even the paper under the seamline didn't do it. There are limits, after all.

  2. you don't scrapbook your seam practice?

next thing i know, you'll be saying you don't catalog all your fabrics by fabric type, color, amount and designer.

If I can't keep my baby books up to date, don't think I'll be scrapping my seams. LOVED these lessons!

HI. I am so sad that I am not a sewer. Wait, that sounds weird. I meant, sew- er. Anywho, I wanted to say hello. And wondered if a wee parcel made it to you? xxooo

I'm so relieved that the lesson is "safely" in the scrapbook. Wouldn't want it to be in any danger laying carelessly on a table (although, come to think of it, I lose plenty of things that way).

While everyone's comments are tongue in cheek - I can laughingly say that I still have my samples in my book from 4-H class and Home Ec. . Tooooo many years ago ( I'm now 58.) But I figure they'll be usefull some day if I teach a grandchild to sew. Now that there is a surge of new teen sewers - I might use them sooner than I think. So glad I found your blog Nina in Canada

  9. I remember seeing things like scrapbooks where people put sample of their machine embroidery etc - and they were really inspirational. I can't really see scrapbooking seam practice bits though ...

I have a Chenille Bedspread site. It pretty much covers chenille bedspreads and bedding.

Come and check it out if you get time ;)
