The Very First BB FF post!
And a green Refashion project to BOOT!
I am going to start with my sad picture of a houndstooth coat rescued from the donation pile on the back yard of the Green Kitchen.
Hmmm.... I wonder why she didn't want it?
On it's way to be recreated as:
Simplicity Pattern 7778, circa 1968:

Here is blurry dark picture of our forlorn coat, on the bedroom floor disassembled: Basically I took the coat apart at it's seams and darts and then laid the pattern over it. I had 3 jumper patterns to chose from and I used the one that fit the best.
And Here we go...
A Fashion Do?
I sure Do Hope So!!!
Okay: This last Photo is for The Clothes Horse who had asked in a previous post about the slip vs. no slip and wooly skirt/tights issue. While I personally do endorse the slip, you do run the risk of slip slippage. A "Glamour Don't' fo' shizzle. But notice how my skirt isn't hiked up due to static cling?.. It is a conundrum of epic proportions.
The favorite detail on this was that I did have to splice the front pieces of the coat together. I saved the pockets and sewed it wrong sides facing because the loose weave of the wool made lovely fringe... this saved me from hemming too!
Let's hear it for recycled wool!
My hat was made by the Lovely and Talented Kerry of Practically Necessary..
I encourage you fashionistas- especially who kindle to the passion for refashion, to mosey over to the Jungle Dream Pagoda where to kick off Fashion Friday, she is going to refashion a Ball Gown. She is asking for styling input.. But that must be for a lark... This woman certainly can put an ensemble together.
So, come along for the ride:
Fashion Friday: No Rules.. (but, probably your post should be about clothes or accessories.) Let us know where you are and we'll come check out your outfits.

Oh yes ,Its much kickier and mod now!!! Love the hat and the fashion shoot!
ReplyDeleteI love black and white houndstooth - and I love the way you reworked it, nice work. The fringing is great, and that hat looks really good on you! Hurray!
ReplyDeleteIf only I had time to sew. Creating and recreating is always fun stuff...even though sometimes you want to pull out your hair because your sewing machine is giving you a hard time...lol. You did an awesome job turning that oversized houndstooth coat into a really cute 60s dress. A pat on the back for you. ReplyDeleteHot damn! You rock. The dress on its own is cool enough, but knowing that you had the vision to see it in that old coat is really mind-blowing to me. I'm seriously impressed.
ReplyDeleteooh I love this dress, definately a fashion do! I would love a dress like this.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I could make this. well done! x
I love this! Houndstooth is one of my favorites and in a jumper it's unstoppable. And that first pic so made me laugh.
ReplyDeleteSo sassy, tame that jacket and torque it into the fabulous mod shape it has harbored secret yearnings for all these long years. Exceptional! That sounds like a report card word, doesn't it? Super terrifically exceptional!
ReplyDeleteYou are brilliant. I absolutely adore the results! It reminds me of the librarian outfits worn by Audrey Hepburn in "Funny Face".
ReplyDeleteI also love reading Susan's "Hot Damn!" Bethany, my dear, you have quite the effect on people. Go and look what I've gone and done with all things Craft Spazz over on my blog.
ReplyDeleteFunny, funny blog!
