Got This One at the flea market last summer. So stinkin' cute!!
Simplicity 1227. What do you think 1956-7?
That's my guess.
And I actually made it last year in the fall. I used a ribbed knit jersey-ish stuff. I decided that I needed to embellish it with some cool big black rick rack.
"Excuse Me ma'am, Fashion Police. I am sorry but it seems like we have a problem. Apparently you have added a point of visual interest on your garment that corresponds directly with a Figure Flaw. And I am sorry ma'am but it seems like your Spandex License has expired."That's my guess.

"But Officer! I made this shirt myself! The pattern was so cute... and the stretch pants are only for the photo shoot.. I swear! It's like a vintage thing."
"I'm sorry Ma'am, you'll have to come with us. We have no choice but to book you on one count of "If you wore it the last time it was in style: Don't Do It Again" and 2nd Degree Belly Embellishment."
The pattern was pretty easy. That made up for the challenge of sewing my first knit on a standard sewing machine. That was okay too. Do-able. Just use the right needle and never stretch the fabric . Be prepare to hand roll the hems. Here is where I really wanted a serger. the fabric is thick so it seems bulky. I used a zig zag overlock stitch on the raw inside edges and so far it hasn't frayed. But in all honesty, I don't wear this all that often. I guess I just hate getting stopped by the Fashion Police.
I think I will try the pattern again sometime with a less challenging fabric... Because I am just dying to look like those sassy girls on the cover. I bet the fashion police give them a merit badge.
I love it - spandex pants and all. It would also do well with some hepburn-esh black capri pants too.
ReplyDeleteBut the fashion police - have you seen their uniforms? So drab. Black, black, and grey. Ick! They are so humorless.
I think you look adorable! What the heck do the fashion police know anyhow?
ReplyDeleteRic-Rac!!! They don't know what they're talking about! Fashion Police---Shmolice......
ReplyDeleteStinkin' cute I say, oh yeah! xo, suzy
ReplyDeleteyou did see that the girl's waists are no bigger than their necks, right?
ReplyDeletefashion police are the devil...
duuuuuude. Love it. Next time hood/cowl?
ReplyDeletePhooey on the Fashion Police! I say you should make a citizen's arrest & take THEM in for having NO fashion sense! You look adorable, your top AND pants are great, and YOU are a HOOT! Wish I could sew like you. Wish I could SEW. Sigh. Wish I could thread my sewing machine. LOL!
ReplyDeleteWell, I think it looks great. And so...sort of... beatnik-ish, you know? I think it's something only the coolest cats would dig. And I like it, rick rack and all. (I agree with Dorie - the cowl would have been a great addition.)
ReplyDeleteI love your sense of humor and self-confidence! I think the shirt turned out fantastic!
ReplyDeleteLindsay Lohan wants her pants back.
ReplyDeleteNo seriously, you're rocking the spandex. :D Love the top. But I was kinda hoping for the hoodie. :D
oh, I do LOVE this top...to hell with the fashion police - those who can't do, enforce - fight?

oooh, I meant:
ReplyDelete- right?
Merlot and commenting don't mix. I'm living proof.

:)
Ridiculously chic. And I see no figure flaws.
ReplyDeleteThe girls on the cover have impossibly small waists. The fashion police should be after them for falsifying figures!
ReplyDeleteThe dialogue cracked me up!
ReplyDeleteYou look great.
And I agree with Zegi above...
Are you kidding? you look amazing!
ReplyDeleteHhaha I love this post it was really funny! You are inspiring me to get back on the sewing machine!
ReplyDeleteWhat figure flaws? The ric-rac gives it a little understated whimsy. I think you look marvelous and beatnick-y. A beret would look faboo with the ensemble, and matbe a little black, patent leather clutch.
ReplyDeleteI love this shirt! except for the turtleneck aspect. I want it to be a boatneck instead. Love the rick rack.
ReplyDeleteWhat figure flaws???
ReplyDeleteI think you look perfect!
