This guy was truly hideous, all painted to look like Sleepy from that Disney dwarf/princess flick.
Clearly, he is a Gnome not a Dwarf... And he looks much cuter in solid red.
I have two of these (bookends) that were a less than charming bold brass... So they required a primer coat, before the orange. I think they look much smarter like this.
This little fawn brooch featured possessed fawns with scary red eyes... But now in solid blue they are super cute.
I wonder how a little French shepherdess would look done in hot pink?
(Those porcelain pieces paint up like a dream!)
Scour those thrift store shelves. Concentrate on stuff that could be ( but probably isn't) pre 60's. Overlook the hideous paint and look for the cooler side of kitsch.
You have the technology. You can save them.
ooooh fun. Now I have to go shopping.
ReplyDeleteI have been loving this idea. Just another excuse to go thrifting! And yes, the gnome totally belongs in red.
ReplyDeleteLove the gnome. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteI consider your posts like this one public service announcements. Nice work.
ReplyDeletethanks for this--you are awesome to share your creative brain with the rest of us. :)

ReplyDeleteSteve Austin, a man barely alive. We can rebuild him. We can make him better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster.
Channeling my childhood TV.
I'm not so suuuuuuuuuuuuuuure .......those fawns eyes are still kinda scary! Thanks for the tip though!
ReplyDeletei have that same gnome (used to be my blog banner): http://www.flickr.com/photos/zopho/2183735771/
ReplyDeletei left him in his original clothes, as i hadn't really connected it with the dwarf in snow white. but now i will have to consider a re-dressing!
lovely little things!
ReplyDeleteLove this very modern makeover.
ReplyDeleteOh what a wonderful idea. So simple and smart! I'm going thrifting today and instead of passing over the scarily painted items because of creepy eyes, I'll look at their shapes! These would also make great gifts!
