Gung Hay Fat Choy
Happy Year of the Piggie Everybody. As part of my resolution for the Other New Year, I decided I wanted to throw more parties.
Here is the party I have been planning.
Our Menu was:
Ginger Martinis, shrimp wraps, wonton wrapper chips and edamame, ( Japanese... I know.. but tasty.)
General Tsaos Chicken, Salmon in black bean sauce, Sesame Broccoli, Garlic Beans, Hoisin Tofu with Cabbage
Tea, tangerines, and fortune cookies
( I made these for the kids.. they are boxes I stuffed these with "snaps", confetti and a candy pig. They were inspired by some I saw at Castle In The Air where you can take a class in how to make them , it is one of my favorite places in Berkeley... and Ulla teaches classes there too..)
I did a sit down dinner for 19.. and I was a mad stir-frying fool. Almost didn't make it.
Had so much fun planning and had fun with the guests too.. But neglected to think of the chaos that would be created by having 4 dishes that had to be stir fried at the last minute in those kinds of quantities. But I had helpful guests, with a good senses of humour so we all ate, drank ginger martinis and were very happy.
Next time: Dinner will either be make ahead... or delivered!
And I am already thinking of the next shin dig..
Perhaps a garden party???? (With ALL the food prepared in advance.)
Anyone want to come?

That table decor and Happy New Year altar belong in a magazine! Did you say you do window displays? Bet it was a great party, the menu sounds delicious!
You, my dear, are AMAZING! This is just wonderful...you didn't miss a single detail! The altar, the decor and the table setting are all so lovely! It certainly looks like you party was a smashing success...old dried up Martha ain't got NOTHIN' on our amazing Bitter Betty, the hostess with the mostest! :D
I, on the other hand, unwittingly have doomed myself to bad luck for the year by both buying new shoes (Chinese maryjane slippers, no less...) and getting my hair re-dyed (which meant washing it) Who knew it was unlucky to do these things on Chinese New Year! D'oh! I hope my luck is not TOO besmirched by my ignorance. After all, it's year of the pig, and i am a pig-year baby, so maybe it'll balance out....LOL!
Oh, you tease me with your impossible invitations! This party sounds absolutely marvelous! And delicious! Gung Hay Fat Choy!
When I read the menu I thought there is no way she cooked all that, but you DID!
Garden party sounds wonderful!
Well, could I come for the food prep, and the part where everyone is arriving and then slip off into the night unnoticed?
I almost had a panic attack just thinking about nineteen people being in my house all at once.
The decorations are wonderful!
You made all that food?? Holy Toledo Bandido!!! Amazing!! What a gorgeous table you set! How fantastic! I also adore the shrine and the antlers?? You are so fab!!!

Cool shrine! The party sounds amazing, kind of like what I plan in my head and then never follow through on...
Amazing. You did all that? We did nothing, but if we had, I would have dialled our local chinese restaurant, and had the food delivered!
