Hemmin' and Hawin' with Mrs. Home Maker

The first hem is my favorite.. and the hanging your dress overnight so that any sagging will show? I mean, this is precision dressmaking! And I think that Mrs. Home Maker is feeling her sewing oats with the clever punning.

Last episode some one asked where they can get this gem. Unfortunately, I have never seen anything else like it.
I do plan to keep putting it up on my blog though because I really think these skills and tricks are so well illustrated and covered in this little marvel. And the humor is something else besides!

I LOVE these comic style sewing lessons. You scored big time the day you got 'em.

This reminds me of how my grandma ALWAYS used that lacy seam tape that she'd sew to the bottom hem with the machine, then hand sew the lace to the dress. Does anyone still DO that anymore??!!

I must have gotten this book at a garage sale because that's where I get EVERYTHING... It has been in my little sewing basket for many years and I passed it on to "Betty" because she is obviously actually making clothes instead of just thinking about it... I looked for any kind of mark or copyright info and didn't see any -- I'm glad everyone is getting so much enjoyment from the book!

Thanks for posting these! I have loved them all - and the information is so valuable.

That hanging tip is especially true for anything cut on the bias or a circle. Only I usually let a circle skirt hang for a week - it is amazing how wonky that hemline gets of you don't.

Great hemming tips - and judging by my recent efforts, I could really use some ;-)
