Thrift Thursday: Buy Fabric to Match Your Cat

Caught a little cold on the plane trip home.
Bought great vintage zodiac fabric at Addison Studio sale a few weeks ago...
so This will be Thrift Thursday for re-entry week.

Been distracted by learning Photoshop, but cutting out a cute top from this fabric today.
Amy Butler Cabo halter... But with some restyling.
Nice to get the needle going again.

The weekend is starting to look exciting!

Thrift Thursday: Madamoiselle Secretary and a Side of Sugar

First things first. Jacob IS "Rolf" in "The Sound of Music". The part he was afraid to get. They do multiple casts so he also "stage crew" and "party-goer"... But for half of the performances he is the teenage (ironic) Nazi heartthrob, with a romantic duet, and dance number, and all. As a former stage brat... I seriously, couldn't be more thrilled. This is a huge step out on a limb for him. He was pretty well talked into joining the company by myself and his pal Alex in the first place. He had no personal aspirations toward the stage whatsoever. And just in case you were wondering, despite being mildly coerced, he was practicing his song and lines as we climbed down from the top of Yosemite Falls (anything to distract us from the agony of the feet, and legs) and I think, if he can get the dance down... He's going to nail it.

Go, Jake! Trying something new!

Now back to our regularly scheduled blog:

Okay, I was almost done thrifting when...

I couldn't resist posing with it since it matches my pants

I found this. Which I don't personally need, as I am already too big for it. But there it was. And I wanted to paint it and fix it and line the inside with Addison Endpapers papers. And wax it with beeswax. And find tiny pens and pencils and stationary for it. I already own a perfect "to scale" glass lamp for the top. I simply couldn't and didn't resist.

And just in case you hoped to see something Cuter:

My son's buddy Michael brought his new kitten over to meet me. Michael may be my new favorite of my son's friends. How cool was that, to bring me this baby to cuddle? Seriously, what a treat! And it let me practice my photography on a fun subject.

Any New Vintage Knitters??? Up For Grabs!

Hi All!

Well, the tomorrow I mentioned on my last post came and went, but here is the giveaway. At the thrift store, I found a great book of chunky vintage knitting patterns circa 1962 by Bernat! But I still don't have the skills, so holding on to this would be just plain wrong.

I'm with Milo... I also like the argyle.

So it's up for grabs! And I'm throwing in some big, pink, size 15 needles. All you need is the yarn!
Leave me a comment and I'll draw on Thursday!

what a darling couple.. and so cozy looking!

These patterns are all cute, a little bit kitschy, and as always here at the Craft Cabin, they are Kitten Approved.

Come on, you know you want it!!

Peace, Love and Snuggles,
Betty

Tuesday? Really?

Hmm... already Tuesday, already September. 8 day since my last post.
I'm in deep denial.
So here you go... some images of cute animals and purchased loot to distract you from the fact that my promise to start blogging regularly again has not yet been fulfilled:

Gratuitous Thrift:

more stuff I don't need and could not live without.

Gratuitous Kitten:

i just love the sly smile

Gratuitous Pup:

snozzle

Gratuitous Cicada Studios Fabric Splurge:

they make me a little weepy, they are so pretty

As for serious news?
My son is now the same height as myself, I am working on a cool top secret project with my sister, I am sewing a new vintage garment, in swanky, saucy animal print-ish velveteen, the pup can roll over on command (and often actually does), the fridge has been clean and organized for 4 straight weeks, I gained back 3 of the pounds I lost since I started walking almost every day, and J actually likes at least one of his teachers this year.

Let's all have a hearty cheer for Mrs. Anderson, Miracle Woman!

All right, I really will start posting regularly again. I'm serious. This time I really mean it.

Thrift Thursday on Friday (with commentary on my lateness)

Sorry I have been slacking off on the posts lately.
I have been working on some new stuff for another book
and making those Vintage Smock Videos.
The last videos are going up on Sew Mama Sew on Monday and I have to say I am kind of relieved. Obviously, I am a huge ham but when you have to edit your own video that you shot of yourself, it gets a little all "too much me-for too long a time-in my own face". I was blissfully in denial that my eyes wrinkled up so much or that my diction is not as up to snuff as I would like.
Anyway that's why I have no new photos of my Anniversary Dress up yet,
but I will try and bribe you to keep reading with this:

Here's two weeks worth of thrift store loot!
I was trying to drop donations off every time I picked up anything but at this point I need to do a couple of make up drop offs as we have been lackadaisical about continuing to edit our stuff. And I have always been able to squeeze in some quality thrift time.

Don't you love the colors?

A gang of middle school students killed my last hand mixer on a rainy day cookie making bender. I loved the color of this one and these crazy egg beater attachments crack me up.
You should see them shimmy on "whip".

Umm, yes... More suitcases.
But they were orange and a matched set. I resisted for 2 weeks and then succumbed.
The set was a slightly ridiculous 25.00. But I was no match for their orange allure.

and I couldn't leave a face like this alone at the thrift store.

Especially when it was attached to the rest of this juicy zoo barkcloth goodness.
A "diaper storage hanger" that will become something for a kid to wear.
Too fun to hang in a closet!
At least a yard of salvageable material.

I'll have more on that candy jar and desk lap in another post..

Who gets the tracing wheels?
That would be Ms. Cleaver and Peitseoga...
Email me your addresses, ladies and they will be on their way...
Michelle and Lindy get the next two I find.

Milo made sure it wasn't rigged.

This Supposed to be Thrift Thursday

But it's not.
It is more like WIP Wednesday Part II.
The Quilt Top .

my very first one ever...

Milo thinks maybe I was a little too freewheeling on the seams.

"I'm going to give this my kitten paws of approval..

but I think you could do better, and frankly I am a little disappointed.

In fact, I just gotta go."

Dang, Milo sure is touchy today!

If I'm good enough for this:

I should be good enough for a surly teenage kitten.

That's right Ladies and Gentlemen,
Bitter Betty is on the board...

Thanks Kristen and Beth for letting me
play a little part in one of the coolest sewing sites ever!

oh!! and Thanks Liz!!! Flattery will get you everywhere with me!!

(Thank Goodness I have Milo around to deflate my ego! Egads!)
