New Vintage Wardrobe # 7: Mrs. Peacock's Minidress

This dress looks suspiciously like a long shirt. After 4 fittings and sets of alterations.. I am looking to tie one on..

Why else would Mrs. Peacock be in the dining room? With A rope?

Mc Calls 8865. A line mini dress .. Space Age Mandarin funnel collar..Amy Butler fabric. Belle : Royal Garden in Turquiose... and dark chambray.

Who Me? I'm Innocent, I tell you. Sure, I used fabrics that were far too light to honor the original design... But look: It's mod and Asian-ish and wearable. In fact, it just went to the market for plum sauce.

I've been framed! but dig this crazy collar! And my Grandma's brooch.. She wouldn't have worn this serious of an A line. My Grandma was more of a sheath (and dagger) girl.

What I love about this garment is the lines down the sides.. But the fit and the drape have had me searching for solutions. This was the first project where I wondered if I was committing a crime of fashion. There were plenty of moments when this just wasn't cute. At All.
But I knew the fabric was worth the effort so I slashed and hacked and.. Voila. Something suitable for dinner and a perhaps a little (foul) play.

It was a close call though. When you play the Vintage pattern game... you roll your dice and you take your chances.

oh the puns.
The dress is adorable. The line is really odd, but strangley appealing. you're going to be swamped in vintage dresses soon, might be time to start making them for others too! *hint hint* : P

Are you wearing feathers in your hair? You, Madam Bethany, know how to have a good time and look fabulous doing so. Another gorgeous creation.

That dress is hot! My favourite one yet. I'm so keen to give the vintage patterns a go, but I'm afraid of all that tweaking. Plus I can't find any that are suitable for breast feeding!

Gorgeous dress and great pictures! I have to say, if I saw that dress on a hanger, I probably wouldn't like it, but it just looks so great on you.

fab.u.lous! I think when you come for HP, I might have a few patterns from my stash to give you. I have no prayer of ever being able to wear them (or sew them if we are being honest...)!

Does the front drop down when the flower pin isn't there? If so, than maybe this could be the perfect vintage nursing dress for Allison. ;)

Tears are streaming and I'm laughing OUT LOUD as I read this post! Good thing "Big Jim" isn't home -- I'd have to explain Miss Peacock in the dining room with the rope - not sure if he would get the "CLUE" -- Best post and outfit yet!

Oh crap. That is so f-ing cute! Seriously wishing I hadn't just eaten a cookie. Could you please e-mail me once a day not to do things like that so that I can wear a cute dress like this one?

OK, when I get home I'm going to get on that ellyptical and work this cookie off the hips.

No one can keep up with you!

Va va voom! So it may not have turned out as you expected it to, but that's one hot number - the staging and lighting certainly doesn't hurt.

I thought it was Colonel Mustard with the revolver in the conservatory!
You are smokin hot in that number! I love the fabric and the side panels and the collar. Another fabulous outfit fine enough to take a trip on the Orient Express! Pour yourself some saki, you deserve it!

You've created your own mini-dinner theater here. I, too, like the diagonal lines down the side of the dress. They are very flattering. And, as always, you're a fashion rock star.
