New Vintage # 18: Don't Drink and Dress

1967 Simplicity 7382...
It's a Wardrobe Malfunction looking for a place to happen.

Actually finished over the winter, I just hung it in the closet.
Green and deep winter pasty just don't mix.

Sure, it looks like a party dress...

But this bad boy gaps like nobody's business.
Wear your good bra and most conservative undies...
That's all I'm saying.

and stay sober and alert or you'll be giving away the farm.

I do believe a few of those clear snaps,
strategically placed, might make this workable...
Or it will be a fairly cute bathing suit cover-up.
But straight off the pattern?
Yipes!

And Hey Erin... It does have pockets.
Or maybe I should say half pockets.
These are more shallow than my aspirations of super modeling.

But nothing says 'Betty' like cute contrasting facings and bias tape edging.
Messy on the outside,
but oh-so-tidy on the inside.

Our Next New Vintage Adventure will be:
The Anniversary Dress..
But I wonder if the Hub would prefer this one?

Is the wrap over part of this dress only secured with the fabric belt at the waist? If so, talk about making sure you're wearing your best undies... hee hee
Love the new spin you gave this pattern by using a fun and modern fabric, Bethany.

I always suspected that you were lampshade material.

Great photo montage, I especially like how your "beverage" matches your dress. Now that's advanced coordination!

I should comments on the dress or your humor but what I really want to say is that you have great teeth! So white and perfect.

I'm just sayin'... I currently wear a size 14. My bust size is way, way, WAY bigger than 34" as the pattern envelope indicates. As it happens, I think my bust measurement surpassed that at the tender age of 11. WAnyhoo, wouldn't there be panic in the streets if ready-to-wear sizes reverted to vintage proportions? I adore your posts, BTW.

I've always found that pattern sizes do not match ready-made sizes. At least that is how it works for me.

You can call me Betty, or Bethany, or Beth ...Just don't call me late for dinner. said...

Hi All!!
Thanks for the great comments!

Rino, I get them at thrift stores, antique stores, Ebay and from kind friends. if you go to Dress A Day she has all kinds of advertisers who all have special pattern webstores and Etsy has a great selection. BTW: the clothes on your site are AWESOME.

My Little Family,
Tom's baking soda toothpaste and Crest White strips for my Monday shower (and thanks for saying that)

Also thanks for the pattern comment..

Mary Ellen, size on patterns is a whole different realm, you have to go by measurements...and your biggest measurement at that. Pattern sizes vary by decade as well.. so I always buy by measurement.
